The Central Illinois Chapter of the ACLU will host Judge James Knecht’s presentation “The Serpent Beguiled Me: Criminal Justice, Prisons, and the Illusion of Originalism” at the Illinois State University Alumni Center at 7 P.M. Tuesday, September 20. This educational event is free to the public.
Justice Knecht will cover the deficits of the criminal justice system in dealing with mental health, race and economics, the over reliance on inadequate prisons and lengthy sentences, and the hypocrisy of originalism.
James Knecht is a Justice of the 4th District Appellate Court and has been a judge 47 years. He was an adjunct Professor at Illinois State for 27 years. He has a wealth of service and experience on local, state, and national boards on subjects of family violence, judicial education, and appellate practice, and has won numerous local and state awards for service.
